Step back in time at this Swindon Railway Village cottage and discover Victorian traditions. Witness the sights, sounds and smells of local community life, and learn how a Great Western Railway worker would have lived with their family living in Swindon c1901.
This 30 minute tour will be hosted from 3pm every Wednesday during the months of April to September. A knowledgeable volunteer will guide you through each room of the house, and you will have time at the end to have a look around at your own pace.
Please meet at the Bakers. You can find more about the Bakers on our buildings page.
There is space for up to 10 people per tour, which is perfect to take the family to see what life was like in Swindon in the past.
It is free to visit us at the Railway Village Museum, though we appreciate any donation contributions you can spare as the Railway Village Museum relies heavily on donations and volunteer contributions to remain open.
Booking is strongly advised to secure your spot as space is very limited in the museum.
This family-friendly event welcomes everyone but all children must be accompanied by at least 1 responsible adult at all times.
Please note:
Please no food or drink in the Museum.
Please note there are no toilet facilities at the Museum, but toilets will be available at the nearby supporting site: Bakers
Wheelchair ramps are available and the ground floor of the Museum is fully accessible for wheelchairs. Space in the cottage is limited and the stairs are steep so please take care. This is also why we ask that pushchairs are not brought inside the cottage.
By public transport:
Swindon Railway Village is easily reachable by train or bus, and we are only a short walking distance from the Central Bus Station.
By car:
There are a number of Car Parks conveniently located around the Railway Village, but we recommend using Bristol Street Car Park.
